Good readers and Writers

Nabokov said, " one should notice and fondle details." Then that would make someone a good reader. I do agree with this statement because im order to know if you are a good reader, then one needs to be able to concentrate on the little details. But I do disagree when he said the reader should not put themselves in the characters shoes. I believe if the reader does so, then it would be easier for them to understand. I believe the characteristics of a good reader is one who can read and understand what the author is trying to convey across to the reader. Also in my opinion what makes a good reader is if they can quickly but also throughly read through the information in a manner that is understandable to the reader. I do consider myself a good reader, this is because I feel like I can do all the things I mentioned in what makes a good reader.

  1. I agree with you that to be a good reader, you need to be able to concentrate on little details. This aspect of reading is hard for me because i usually like to just skim over things to get it over with unless its something i am really interested in. It is hard to pick up those little details that could be really important in the reading. I also disagree with Nabokov that you should not put yourself in the characters shoes. A lot of times that's the best part about reading, is imagining yourself as the character and losing yourself in the book.

  2. Daniel,

I enjoyed your post and video. I can't say that I disagreed with the author, but the points that you argued against made me look at it in a different perspective. Putting yourself in the characters shoes can make the story more intresting. Good luck in soccer, and I look forward to communicating with you in this class.
